Guggenheim & Night Life

Yesterday we went to the Guggenheim Museum which is located just across the bridge from the university.
  • The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, designed by North American architect Frank O. Gehry, is a magnificent example of the most groundbreaking architecture to have come out of the 20th century. The building itself is an innovatively designed architectural landmark that creates a seductive backdrop for the exhibition of contemporary art.
  • The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was inaugurated in 1997 as a part of a revitalization plan for the city of Bilbao. From the time the museum opened its doors, it has been an important tourist attraction, captivating the interest of visitors from around the world and earning its place as the city's centerpiece of modern architecture.
  • The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao's entire permanent collection is exhibited in a dynamic fashion through various displays aimed at providing the public with different perspectives on the history of art.

Later that night, we were all invited to a free concert at a place in downtown Bilbao. Two different bands played, and it was a lot of fun. They had signed guitars from famous bands in a glass case on the wall. After the concert, we went to a festival in the nearby town of Sopleana. During the month of July, towns around Bilbao celebrate fiestas. The events of these festivals include activities during the day and also during the night (concerts, sports, dances, etc.). These festivals are similar to Atkinson or Annawan Days, where the people pay tribute to their town. I bet there were thousands of people there! Algorta's festival is during my last weekend in Spain.
