Yesterday marked the first day of rebajas (sales) season in Spain!
There are two main sales seasons in Spain (as in the entire Europe): summer sales and winter sales. If you have enough time to spend checking out the stores you can literally go home with a new wardrobe and a lot of money saved. Summer sales generally start around mid-July and last until the end of August, although you can find small (as in 20%) discounts several weeks before the start of the sales. Winter sales start around mid-January and end on the last day of February (29th in 2008). http://www.spaintravelguide.com/shopping
The first day of sale season is similar to Black Friday in the US. The stores were crazy!! I went shopping and got a few things but most of them were souvenirs, which aren't really on sale. I got a sweatshirt from my school, a bright yellow sweater, two scarves (for my mom and future sister-in-law), magnet (for my aunt), postcards (for friends), and shot glasses (for my brother and friend). Luckily the sale season continues through July because I have a lot more shopping to do!
