- Every toilet has a different kind of button or handle to flush it
- It's not socially acceptable to buy alcohol and take it to your hotel room. You're considered an alcoholic if you do so.
- No matter how hard you try to blend in, people still know you're American. They will akwardly stare at you like you have a disease.
- Spaniards like to drink their milk warm. Yummm warm cereal!
- Drinks almost always come in a glass bottle, and you don't dare drink it unless it's poured into a glass.
- Alcohol is everywhere, and almost anybody can buy it. It's in vending machines, in the cafeteria, on planes, etc.
- Breakfast in Spain is very light, consisting of a pastry, fruit, toast, or cereal. Lunch isn't served until 1:30-3:00pm and is the biggest meal of the day. There are 3 courses during lunch. The first course is usually soup, salad, or pasta. The second course is meat or fish with a side dish, and the last course is dessert. Then, dinner isn't served until 8:30pm or later.
- Siestas are always taken after lunch. Stores are usually closed during siesta time from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Everyone likes to sleep here!
- Everyone likes to sleep so much that people are never up early in the morning. Stores don't open until around 10am. My host mom was shocked that I have a 8:30am class.
- Everyone is always dressed up. I have yet to see a Spaniard just casually walking around in sweat clothes and tennis shoes.
- Everyone drives little cars. You rarely see any huge SUVs or trucks.
- It's insulting to say gracias (thank you) all the time. It's only supposed to be used when someone goes out of their way to do something for you.
